Amsterdam's Red Light District: Bloedstraat

Bloedstraat, De Waag, Nieuwmarkt, Amsterdam. Copyright: George 2011
The infamous Bloedstraat (Blood Street) is said to be named after blood used to run down the street during executions at Nieuwmarkt. Nowadays it is more known for the blue lights indicating that most of the working "girls" are not girls at all! There aren't any windows in the eastern part of it shown above though. The building at the top of Bloedstraat is De Waag which is at Neiuwmarkt. Most days there is a small market there. There is also an Albert Heijn supermarket which is the closest one to the read light district.
