On 17th May 2017 fourteen windows which had closed in 2007/8 re-opened under the "My Red Light" scheme. This is a government scheme where the windows are run by / for the girls instead businessmen with any profits going towards maintaining the rooms or projects to help the ladies. Ten of these windows are in Boomsteeg and the other four are at OudezijdsAchterburgwal 27.
The opening of these windows is further proof that the authorities are not seeking to close down the RLD as some claim. They are simply making things better for all concerned. Some claimed the ladies would not work here but around 30% were already occupied the day after they opened.

The far window is a single room whereas the other three lead to a small corridor with five rooms / red light windows. Each room has been given a fancy name (for the workers) but the they have not been made public. Instead I am using numbers based on old maps or simply made up for reference purposes.

Five windows below street level. The closest two are actual rooms but the next three have their "working" rooms upstairs.

Photo taken around 2010. From 2007 to 2017 these once busy windows stood empty or housed art / fashion displays.
