Amsterdam's Red Light District: Febo

Febo on the corner of Korte Niezal and Oudezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam's red light district Holland. Febo is the ultimate fast food joint. In the photos you can see a vending machine with banks of little glass fronted compartments. Each of these contains a hot snack. Examples are burgers, chicken, sausages and weird battered things with gooey centres. You simply put your money into a slot and open the compartment you want and take out your snack. Someone on the other side will replace it a few minutes later ready for the next customer. A fairly rapid turnover and heated compartments means the food is usually hot though predictably not super high quality.
There is also a counter for ordering meals or just chips, drinks etc Check out the Febo Menu.
I love the idea of these places but personally prefer Smullers. This is almost identical but they have much better kipburgers (chicken burgers) and spicy sausages. Unfortunately there isn't one in the red light district and I think the nearest is now Centraal station.
Remember that when you order chips in Holland they will drench them in mayonnaise unless you shout stop! It's so natural to the Dutch even if you order it without mayonnaise they will probably forget and just drown your chips anyway. Luckily there is ketchup available also but don't be surprised if they look at you as if you've just insulted the king.
