Rue de la Gaîté : Paris Red Light District (Quartier Rouge) France

Rue de la Gaîté red light district (Quartier Rouge) is a small (300m) street in the Montparnasse area of Paris. You can see the location on my Paris map and I have ringed it in this photo that I took from the top of the Montparnasse Tower (Tour Maine-Montparnasse). This sky scraper by the way gives fantastic views of the whole city and has a large viewing area. It's quite expensive at around 13 Euros which is more than the Eiffel Tower. At the top of the photo is the Montparnasse Cemetery (Cimetière du Montparnasse).
Rue de la Gaîté is quite respectable and only has a small number of adult shops. The rest of the street is made up with restaurants, cafes, theatres, bars and hotels. Theatres include Theatre de la Gaite-Montparnasse, Théâtre Montparnasse, Petit Théâtre du Montparnasse, Bobino, The Italian Comedy and Théâtre Rive Gauche (see below).
The nearest metro stations to this area are Gaîté on line 13 and Edgar Quinet on line 6.

The first photo right shows the 400 seat Théâtre Rive Gauche at 6 Rue de la Gaîté, 75014 Paris (tele: 0033 143353231). The name translates to "The Left Bank Theatre". Originally a cinema it re-opened under it's new name in 1994. When I took this photo it was showing Le journal d'Anne Frank.
The next photo shows the Hôtel Le M at 20 bis / 14 Rue de la Gaîté, Tour Montparnasse, 75014 Paris. This is a four star hotel with an 8/10 rating. Other hotels on the street include the Timhotel Tour Montparnasse, Mercure Paris Gare Montparnasse, and the cheap though poorly rated L'Espérance.
Second row, first photo shows some of the food available in this street. Here you can see pizza slices and hotdogs. Most of the restaurants seemed to be foreign. I saw several Japanese and Sushi seems to be the big thing at the moment in Paris. I also saw Thai, Vietnamese and Italian restaurants in this street.
The last photo here shows a typical adult shop. Unlike Boulevard de Clichy and Rue Saint-Denis they are less prominent and there are no doormen or pretty girls trying to lure you in. I feel they are merely tolerated rather than being the main focus. I never saw a single streetwalker here.
