Zeedijk marks the north eastern boundary of the red light district (unless you count the isolated Gelderskade 48 windows). This street is as close to a China town that Amsterdam has. Predictably there are several Chinese restaurants though also many others. There is also the Buddhist Fo Guang Shan He Hua Temple which you can see in the very centre of the photo.
In the 70s Zeedijk was virtually a no go area with drug dealers everywhere. Nowadays though things are very different and it's as safe and friendly as anywhere else in the city.
Photo taken around 2010.
